The opening ceremony took place in Dehradun, with Prime Minister Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attending the event. This is the first time the National Games are being held in Uttarakhand, and they will continue until February 14.

The games will feature competitions in 35 categories, with more than 10,000 athletes participating. The event is being held under the theme "Green Games," and as part of this initiative, 10,000 plants were planted by athletes at the Games Village, promoting environmental conservation. For the first time in the National Games, Yoga competitions are also being held.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of sports, expressing his hopes that India would host the Olympics by 2036. Athletes from all 28 states are competing in the games, and the event is being held at the Rajeev Gandhi Cricket Stadium. The Prime Minister entered the stadium in a specially designed chariot and was joined by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Minister of State for Sports, Raksha Khadse, Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri, and other dignitaries.

Prime Minister Modi also met with athletes, including Laxya Sen, Manish Rawat, Jaspal Rana, and Hitendra Rawat. The opening ceremony was a spectacular event, and 10,000 athletes across 43 sports categories are now ready to showcase their best performances. Among these athletes, 49% are women. State teams, Indian Armed Forces, and Services teams are also participating in the games, with the Services team being the reigning champions of the last four editions. The National Games aim to bring the best athletes in the country to the forefront, and they will continue until February 14.
