Ed Sheeran opened his 2026 Loop Tour with a moment few fans expected: an arm-wrestling contest against Chris Hemsworth, the actor famous for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The match took place in Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on Thursday, Feb. 26, as Sheeran prepared to launch the Australian leg of his tour. Hemsworth shared a video of the playful showdown on social media, and the clip quickly drew attention because Sheeran, whose public image is more singer-songwriter than gym enthusiast, made the contest far more competitive than many viewers anticipated.
The surprise pairing combined two very different kinds of celebrity. Sheeran is one of the world's best-selling pop artists, known for heartfelt songwriting, arena-sized hits and a laid-back public persona. Hemsworth is a Hollywood star whose role as Thor turned him into a global action figure, with a physique that has become part of his brand. Seeing them lock hands over a table was, for many fans, an amusing collision of pop music and superhero cinema.
